Applications

Start with the work your laboratory needs to do.

Choose an application area to move directly to the operating ranges, product evidence and equipment relevant to that work.

Sentwin vertical autoclave with stainless steel chamber, wing nut lid and pressure gauge.
Vertical Autoclave Double Wall

Sterilisation

Sterilise media, glassware and instruments under saturated steam.

Vertical autoclaves work under saturated steam at an adjustable 10 to 20 psi, in capacities from 22 to 187 litres. Portable models in aluminium and stainless steel carry a pressure gauge to 20 p.s.i. and are supplied with a tripod stand.

The vertical range is built in double wall and triple wall construction. The triple wall model adds a separate water chamber and outer jacket in mirror-finish stainless steel, with a low water cut-off.

Pressure is adjustable across the stated range rather than fixed at one setting.

Sentwin Muffle Furnace Industrial Model with instrument panel, voltmeter and MCBs.
Muffle Furnace Industrial Model

Heating, drying and high temperature

Dry, cure and ash at temperatures from just above ambient to 1200 °C.

Universal ovens hold +5 °C above ambient to 250 °C in chambers from 28 to 750 litres. Tray dryers take 12 to 96 trays to 200 °C. The industrial muffle furnace runs at a 1100 °C working temperature with a 1200 °C maximum.

Water and oil baths cover wet heating. A serological bath runs 30 to 100 °C within ±0.5 °C; an oil bath runs 50 to 200 °C within ±1 °C with variable speed stirring.

Ovens are offered with forced convection, digital or microprocessor temperature control, and a size table that runs the full length of the range rather than a single model.

Sentwin dual chamber Seed Germinator with glass inner doors and graphic LCD controller.
Seed Germinator (Dual Chamber)

Incubation, germination and stability

Hold a culture, a seed lot or a stability batch for as long as the method runs.

BOD incubators are refrigerated, 5 to 50 °C within ±1 °C. Stability chambers hold 10 to 60 °C within ±0.5 °C and 35 to 95 percent relative humidity, from 125 to 1000 litres. Seed germinators pair a heating and a cooling chamber with humidity to 100 percent RH.

Bacteriological incubators run from 28 to 720 litres, with a glass window in the door.

Seed germinators are offered as single and dual chamber cabinets, with stainless steel shelving and a digital graphic display.

Sentwin Blood Bank Refrigerator with polished stainless steel interior and digital controller.
Blood Bank Refrigerator

Temperature-sensitive storage

Keep samples and blood products at their storage temperature, and know when they leave it.

Deep freezers run from ambient to −20 °C in 4 to 15 cubic feet. Blood bank refrigerators hold 4 °C to 6 °C with an audio-visual alarm, from 85 to 400 litres, or 50 to 360 blood bags.

Both ranges are offered as a table of capacities rather than as a single unit, so the cabinet is chosen by the load it has to hold.

The blood bank range has an interior in polished stainless steel, with a digital controller and a temperature alarm.

Sentwin horizontal laminar air flow cabinet in stainless steel with sliding front sash and stand.
Horizontal Laminar Air Flow S.S.

Clean-air workspaces

Work over filtered air when the sample cannot pick up what is in the room.

Laminar air flow cabinets are built in 304 stainless steel with a HEPA filter, pre-filter, static manometer and built-in UV tube, in working chambers from 2 to 6 feet wide.

The vertical cabinet has a plexiglass front door that can be held fully open, half open or closed, with the UV tube interlocked to the door.

An optional microprocessor controller adds HEPA run-time and filter-life alarms, a UV timer and a door-position alarm.

Sentwin Rotary Shaker with flask-clamp platform and mechanical speed regulator.
Rotary Shaker

Mixing and sample preparation

Stir, shake, rotate and homogenise at a speed you can set again.

Magnetic stirrers take 1 and 2 litre volumes with a PTFE rotor and continuously variable speed. Rotary shakers carry a 25 or 35 inch square platform driven by a 1/4 or 1/2 HP motor.

Vortex mixers, wrist-action shakers and rotators cover the smaller sample work, and homogenisers come with 30 ml and 50 ml stainless steel cups.

Magnetic stirrers, the laboratory stirrer and the vortex mixer are offered with continuously variable speed rather than fixed steps.

Universal Combined Kjeldahl Digestion and Distillation Unit, in a Sentwin product photograph.
Universal Combined Kjeldahl Digestion and Distillation Unit

Digestion and extraction

Digest a sample for nitrogen, or pull a compound out with solvent.

The universal combined Kjeldahl unit puts digestion and distillation on one mild steel tubular stand, with two heating shelves, a B24 glass fume duct, 500 W individually regulated heaters and a brass condenser rack. Soxhlet heating units take 100, 150, 250 and 500 ml flasks.

Digestion and distillation are also offered as separate units, and as stands supplied without glass parts so an existing glass train can be reused.

The bath type Soxhlet unit covers 100 to 350 ml flasks, and glass yarn heating mantles come with energy regulators and an on/off switch.

Tablet Coating Pan

Dosage forms and pharmacy QC

Make, coat and count a dosage form, then test what comes off the machine.

The single punch machine presses tablets up to 1000 mg with automatic compression and ejection on each wheel revolution. A 12 inch stainless steel coating pan runs off an oil-immersed gearbox with an independent blower and thermostatically heated air, and a canvas-lined polishing pan follows it.

Testing sits alongside production: friability in a rotating acrylic drum, hardness on the Monsanto and Pfizer type testers, disintegration across twelve removable glass vessels with stainless steel mesh bottoms, and dissolution rate.

Packing equipment covers ampoule filling, sealing, washing and clarity inspection, bottle filling, washing and cap sealing, collapsible tube filling and sealing, and a blister and strip pack leak tester with a diaphragm vacuum pump.

Digital pH Meter, in a Sentwin product photograph.
Digital pH Meter

Analysis and measurement

Read a pH, a conductivity, a wavelength or a refractive index.

The bench digital pH and mV meter is offered with manual temperature compensation, and the digital conductivity meter with five ranges. The flame photometer carries sodium and potassium filters, a compressor and a direct ppm or mg/l readout with automatic ignition and filter selection.

The UV visible range runs from single beam instruments with a four digit LCD, printer and RS232 interfaces up to double beam scanning units with a DNA and protein test, in one sample and seven sample capacities.

Refractive index is covered by the Abbe and Butyro refractometers, optical rotation by the student and research polarimeters, and counting by the digital, microprocessor and manual colony counters and the antibiotic zone reader.

Sledge Microtome, in a Sentwin product photograph.
Sledge Microtome

Histology, physiology and teaching

Section a block, record a physiological response, or run a teaching bench.

The sledge microtome takes large paraffin and resin blocks, whole organs and industrial materials on offsettable knife clamps. The Erma type rotary microtome produces uniform sections in one micron steps, and an automatic razor sharpener hones under an acrylic safety canopy.

Physiology recording covers kymographs, the bicycle ergograph, a six litre vital capacity spirometer usable as a gasometer, and single and six probe telethermometers.

Teaching equipment covers overhead and slide projectors with their transparencies, slides and wall or tripod projection screens, which are listed as accessories rather than as equipment.
